More than one kind of gold

The warm weather brought the end of the sugar season.  From my uneducated point of view, it is a good thing.  From all accounts, this has been a record year.  My neighbors tell me that they've boiled twice as much as most years.  Liquid gold.  

Did you know you can freeze syrup?  I put three quarts in jars to freeze and one in the fridge.

We celebrated the spectacular weather with our first bike ride of the season yesterday, a bit over 11 miles on a combination of gravel and paved roads, followed by ice cream sundaes.  Lines were long at the creamee stand.  Popular this year (not with us) is the Vermonter, vanilla ice cream with maple syrup and bacon bits.   There is a certain appeal.....
